Sunrise Drive Library
Tucson, Arizona

These clay murals are part of their 5th grade Legacy Project at Sunrise Drive Elementary School. Students research a topic and create a public art mural that finds a permanent home at their school. This tradition began in 2004-2005 when I worked as the artist in residence in the school, guiding the students in the process of public art, creation of the design and all the clay and glaze work.  Subsequent years, art teacher, Gili Sherman, led the process. I came in to consult, participate in the design and to do the finish work. These murals are collaborative works on many levels including the principle, Dr. Sherill, all 5th grade students and many parent volunteers.
